چکیده
Abstract For a continuous core-periphery model, we construct model with n regions for each $$n\ge 2$$ n ≥ 2 . Assuming that the known functions of and diameters converge to 0 respectively as number tends infinity, this paper proves approximate relations between models large small when are in short-run equilibrium.

Chaos in the Core-Periphery Model
This paper shows that the standard continuous-time core-periphery model – the foundation of the New Economic Geography – is not robust: simply reformulating it in discrete time has profound implications. The continuous-time model can only exhibit stationary long-term behavior, and high transport costs are perceived as stabilizing. In contrast, the discrete-time model can exhibit cycles of any p...
متن کاملCore-Periphery Structure in Networks
Intermediate-scale (or “meso-scale”) structures in networks have received considerable attention, as the algorithmic detection of such structures makes it possible to discover network features that are not apparent either at the local scale of nodes and edges or at the global scale of summary statistics. Numerous types of meso-scale structures can occur in networks, but investigations of such f...
متن کاملCore and periphery in networks
We study a model of network formation where the bene ts from connections exhibit decreasing returns and decay with network distance. We show that the unique equilibrium network is a periphery-sponsored star, where one player, the center, maintains no links and earns a high payo¤, while all other players maintain a single link to the center and earn lower payo¤s. Both the star architecture and p...
متن کاملStructure and dynamics of core/periphery networks
Recent studies uncovered important core/periphery network structures characterizing complex sets of cooperative and competitive interactions between network nodes, be they proteins, cells, species or humans. Better characterization of the structure, dynamics and function of core/periphery networks is the key step to our understanding of cellular functions, species adaptation, social and market ...
متن کاملCore-periphery organization of complex networks.
Networks may, or may not, be wired to have a core that is both itself densely connected and central in terms of graph distance. In this study we propose a coefficient to measure if the network has such a clear-cut core-periphery dichotomy. We measure this coefficient for a number of real-world and model networks and find that different classes of networks have their characteristic values. Among...
